This unique mug starts with a real bike brake rotor impressed into wet clay! The finish is fully vitrified (non-porous) "naked" dark stoneware clay with white glaze in the impressions. There is a beautiful green variegated glaze inside, on the rim and handle. These colors are truly stunning with the dark chocolate color clay! Each hand-built stoneware mug is made one at a time, without a potter's wheel. The making process is about 2 hours per mug, and drying must happen very slowly to avoid warping and cracking. Each mug is unique in shape, design, and coloring, and holds approximately 15 oz filled to the rim. Fired to over 2100 degrees, items meet the glaze manufacturer’s specification for food safety and are lead-free. Stoneware is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. Stovetop or freezer use is not recommended. Artist's mark on the bottom. A beautiful bike-themed way to drink your morning coffee or other favorite beverage!
This beautiful stoneware piece is microwave “safe” in that it does not absorb water, and there are no hazardous chemicals that can get into your food or beverage.
The piece WILL GET QUITE HOT in the microwave due to the iron that is present (but can’t get out of the clay into your food after firing). The stoneware may be HOTTER than the contents, so please be careful.
Since these are individually handmade, there may be small variations such as an unround shape, tiny cracks, or glaze variations that do not impact the function or structure of the piece and only add to it's unique nature and beauty.
