The Velotric GoMad is a compact cargo e-bike designed for errands, commuting, groceries, family transportation, recreational riding, and carrying substantial gear. Its 20 x 4.0-inch tires keep the bike stable and relatively maneuverable, while the integrated heavy-duty rear rack, powerful hub motor, front suspension, high-capacity battery, hydraulic disc brakes, and broad rider-fit range make it a practical alternative to a longer cargo-bike platform.
Best For
- Errands, groceries, commuting, and replacing shorter vehicle trips
- Riders who want meaningful cargo capacity without the length of a traditional long-tail cargo bike
- Carrying properly secured equipment, bags, baskets, and compatible cargo accessories
- Family or passenger use with the required compatible seating and safety equipment
- Pavement, neighborhood streets, gravel roads, campgrounds, and moderate mixed-surface riding
- Households that want one adjustable utility e-bike to serve more than one rider
Why We Like It at Kickstand Culture
The GoMad occupies a useful middle ground between a conventional e-bike and a full-length cargo bike. Its smaller 20-inch wheels help keep the center of gravity relatively low, while the 4-inch tires add stability and cushioning. The integrated MIK HD-compatible rear rack provides far more carrying capacity than a standard commuter rack without making the bicycle as long as many passenger-oriented cargo models.
SensorSwap is another practical feature. Torque-sensor mode responds to rider effort for smoother, more natural assistance, while cadence-sensor mode can provide easier cruising with less physical effort. The adjustable cockpit also allows the one-size frame to accommodate riders approximately 5 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall.
Compared with the Aventon Abound LR, the GoMad is shorter and more fat-tire-oriented. The Abound LR provides the extended rear platform of a traditional long-tail cargo bike, while the GoMad emphasizes compact dimensions, wide-tire stability, mixed-surface versatility, and substantial rack capacity.

Payload-capacity note: Velotric identifies 500 pounds as the GoMad’s maximum payload capacity and 176 pounds as the maximum rear-rack load. The 500-pound figure should not be interpreted as permission to place 500 pounds on the rear rack. The rider, passengers, cargo, and installed equipment must remain within the bicycle’s overall payload limit and the lower limit of every rack, seat, basket, child carrier, passenger kit, foot support, or other accessory.
Passenger and child-carrying note: Carrying a passenger requires the complete compatible seating system, secure handholds, appropriate foot supports, rear-wheel protection, and any other equipment specified by Velotric. Child passengers must meet the age, size, helmet, and seating requirements of the installed child seat or young-passenger system. Never carry a passenger directly on an uncovered rack.
Cargo note: Cargo should be balanced, firmly secured, and kept clear of the wheels, drivetrain, brakes, and lighting. Heavy loads should be positioned as low and centrally as the accessory system permits. Practice starting, stopping, turning, and dismounting in a controlled area before riding in traffic with a substantial load.
Terrain note: The GoMad is suitable for pavement, gravel, maintained dirt roads, campgrounds, and moderate mixed-surface use. Its fat tires and suspension improve comfort and traction, but its utility geometry, weight, and cargo equipment do not make it a purpose-built mountain bike for technical singletrack, jumps, or aggressive descending.
Class-setting note: E-bike classifications, permitted speeds, and throttle rules vary by roadway, trail, park, and jurisdiction. Configure the bicycle appropriately for where it will be ridden. Class 3 operation and throttle use may be restricted on multi-use paths and recreational trails.
Transport note: At approximately 77 pounds, the GoMad exceeds the capacity of many conventional bicycle racks. Confirm the rack’s per-bike weight rating, wheelbase range, tire-width capacity, frame compatibility, and vehicle-hitch rating before transport. Removing the battery reduces lifting weight to approximately 67 pounds but does not make an inadequately rated rack safe.
Range note: Actual range varies with assistance level, throttle use, rider and cargo weight, passenger use, terrain, wind, temperature, tire pressure, speed, and stop frequency. Heavy loads, soft tires, hills, cold weather, and frequent acceleration can reduce range substantially.
Connected-features note: App functions, phone-finding services, NFC access, over-the-air updates, and other connected features may require compatible devices, account setup, current software, and data connectivity.
