A lightweight, versatile comfort bike designed for an upright riding position and easygoing enjoyment on pavement, paths, and light unpaved surfaces.

The Jamis Explorer A2 combines the relaxed comfort of a recreational bicycle with the gearing, tire volume, and responsive handling needed for more varied riding. Its lightweight aluminum frame, upright cockpit, wide 27.5-inch tires, padded comfort saddle, and 21-speed Shimano drivetrain make it a practical choice for neighborhood rides, bike paths, fitness riding, and casual exploration.

Best For

  • Comfortable recreational and fitness riding
  • Neighborhood streets, paved paths, rail trails, and towpaths
  • Riders who prefer an upright position with less weight on their hands and wrists
  • Casual rides on pavement, packed gravel, and maintained dirt paths
  • Riders who want useful gearing for rolling terrain and moderate hills
  • Anyone looking for more versatility than a traditional cruiser

Why We Like It

The Explorer A2 occupies a useful middle ground between a relaxed comfort bike and a more performance-oriented hybrid. Its upright riding position makes it approachable and comfortable, while the 21-speed drivetrain and wide 27.5 x 2.1-inch tires allow it to handle more varied routes than an ordinary neighborhood cruiser.

We also like the adjustability of the cockpit. The swept-back handlebar and angle-adjustable stem allow the handlebar height and reach to be tailored to the rider. Combined with the thickly padded saddle and high-volume tires, this creates a comfortable bicycle that remains practical for longer recreational rides.

Key Features

  • Lightweight Aluminum Frame: The 6061 aluminum frame is easier to pedal, maneuver, and load onto a vehicle than a comparable steel comfort bike.
  • Upright Riding Position: A shorter reach, high-rise handlebar, and extended head tube help reduce pressure on the hands, wrists, shoulders, and neck.
  • Traditional and Step-Through Frames: Multiple frame styles and sizes accommodate a broad range of riders and preferences.
  • Shimano 21-Speed Drivetrain: Provides useful gearing for flat paths, rolling terrain, headwinds, and moderate hills.
  • EZ-Fire Plus Shifters: Shimano integrated controls provide straightforward shifting and convenient brake-lever placement.
  • Wide 27.5-Inch Tires: High-volume 2.1-inch tires add cushioning, stability, and traction without feeling excessively slow on pavement.
  • Comfort Saddle: Extra-thick padding, a slip-resistant synthetic suede top, low-friction side panels, and bumper springs help soften the ride.
  • Adjustable Stem: Allows the handlebar position to be adjusted to improve reach and riding posture.
  • Swept-Back Handlebar: Positions the hands at a natural angle and brings the controls closer to the rider.
  • Integrated Chainguard: Helps protect clothing from contact with the front chainrings.
  • Replaceable Derailleur Hanger: Helps protect the frame and simplifies repairs if the rear derailleur receives an impact.
  • Comfort Platform Pedals: Wide pedals with nonslip inserts work well with everyday footwear.

Fit and Sizing

The Explorer A2 is available in both traditional and step-through frame configurations. The step-through frame provides a substantially lower standover height, making it easier to get on and off the bicycle.

Rider height is a useful starting point, but the correct size also depends on inseam, proportions, mobility, riding experience, and preferred posture. A properly fitted rider should be able to reach the handlebars and brake levers comfortably while maintaining a relaxed bend in the elbows.

Whenever possible, we recommend visiting Kickstand Culture for a test ride and professional sizing assistance. We can help select the appropriate frame style and size, then adjust the saddle, handlebar angle, stem position, and control placement for the rider.

Recommended Use

The Explorer A2 is intended for recreational riding on streets, paved paths, rail trails, packed gravel, towpaths, and maintained dirt surfaces. Its wide tires provide stability and light off-pavement capability, but the bike is not designed for technical mountain-bike trails, jumps, or aggressive terrain.
