The Velotric Discover M is a premium mid-drive commuter e-bike designed for riders who want natural-feeling assistance, confident hill-climbing performance, and long-distance comfort. Its VeloCore™ mid-drive system applies power through the bicycle’s drivetrain, creating balanced handling and a responsive connection between rider effort and motor support. With a step-through frame, air suspension, suspension seatpost, wide-range drivetrain, integrated commuter equipment, and extensive connected technology, the Discover M is built for commuting, errands, paved paths, rail trails, and longer recreational rides.

Best For

  • Daily commuting, errands, and replacing shorter vehicle trips
  • Long recreational rides on roads, paved paths, and rail trails
  • Riders who regularly encounter hills or changing terrain
  • Customers who prefer the balanced handling and natural response of a mid-drive motor
  • Riders who want an accessible step-through frame and upright riding position
  • Customers seeking premium comfort, range, utility equipment, and connected features

Why We Like It at Kickstand Culture

The Discover M is more than a comfort commuter with a different motor. Its VeloCore™ mid-drive system sends assistance through the bicycle’s gearing, allowing the motor to operate efficiently when starting, climbing, or riding across changing terrain. Central motor placement also gives the bicycle more balanced weight distribution than many rear-hub e-bikes.

Velotric complements the motor with components appropriate for a premium everyday e-bike: a Shimano CUES 9-speed drivetrain, 80mm air suspension fork, suspension seatpost, hydraulic disc brakes, puncture-resistant 27.5-inch tires, and a high-capacity battery. The included rack, fenders, lighting, turn signals, adjustable cockpit, and connected controls make it useful for practical transportation as well as recreation.

We especially like that the Discover M combines an accessible, comfort-oriented frame with drivetrain and motor performance that will also appeal to experienced cyclists. It is approachable enough for everyday riding without feeling overly simplified or limited as a rider’s distance, fitness, or terrain changes.

Why Choose the Discover M?

Choose the Discover M if your rides regularly include hills, longer distances, or changing terrain, or if you prefer electric assistance that feels closely connected to your own pedaling. Its mid-drive motor can use the bicycle’s selected gear, giving it an advantage during sustained climbing while contributing to balanced handling and efficient power delivery.

The hub-drive Velotric Discover 3 may be the better choice if you prioritize simpler operation, strong motor assistance that is less dependent on gear selection, or a lower purchase price. The Discover 3 is an excellent comfort commuter and recreational e-bike, while the Discover M is intended for riders who place greater value on drivetrain refinement, climbing performance, and a more natural bicycle-like ride.

Mid-drive shifting note: A mid-drive motor sends both rider and motor power through the bicycle’s drivetrain. Briefly reduce pedal pressure when changing gears, especially during climbs. Shifting under full load can accelerate wear or damage the chain, cassette, and derailleur.

Gear-selection note: Shift into an easier gear before coming to a stop or beginning a steep climb. Starting in a high gear places unnecessary load on the rider, motor, chain, and drivetrain.

SensorSwap note: Torque-sensor mode responds to rider effort and generally creates a more natural bicycle-like experience. Cadence-sensor mode provides assistance primarily when pedal rotation is detected and can be useful for riders who prefer easier cruising with less physical effort.

Class-setting note: E-bike classifications, throttle use, and permitted speeds vary by roadway, path, park, and jurisdiction. Configure the bicycle appropriately for where it will be ridden. Class 3 operation and throttle use may be restricted on multi-use paths and recreational trails.

Range note: Actual range varies with assistance mode, throttle use, rider and cargo weight, terrain, wind, temperature, tire pressure, riding speed, stop frequency, and gear selection. The maximum published ranges represent favorable test conditions and should not be expected on every ride.

Connected-features note: NFC access, Apple Find My, Android Find Hub, Bluetooth functions, Ride Tuning, and over-the-air updates may require a compatible phone, account setup, current software, and data connectivity.
