Why We Like It at Kickstand Culture
The Current EXP was engineered from the ground up as a true performance electric mountain bike - not simply a commuter bicycle fitted with knobby tires and suspension. Its frame geometry, suspension layout, drivetrain, brakes, wheelset, dropper post, and motor controls were selected around actual trail riding. The 64.6-degree head angle provides stability on descents, while the 76.6-degree seat-tube angle helps place the rider efficiently over the pedals during climbs.
The carbon-fiber front triangle reduces weight while increasing steering precision and front-end stiffness. The aluminum rear triangle adds durability in an area exposed to repeated impacts, drivetrain loads, and suspension forces. This mixed-material construction gives the EXP a premium front-end feel without depending on carbon for every part of the frame.
The Ultro X mid-drive system provides up to 110Nm of standard torque and up to 120Nm in BOOST Mode. Because the motor sends power through the bicycle’s drivetrain, it can use the selected gear when climbing or accelerating. That produces a more natural riding experience and makes proper gear selection an important part of getting the best performance from the bike.

The Aventon Current ADV may be the better choice if you want a lower purchase price and still need a capable full-suspension eMTB for recreational trails. The ADV uses an aluminum frame, mechanical SRAM Eagle 70 Transmission drivetrain, RockShox Psylo Gold fork, and SRAM DB8 brakes. It shares the Ultro X motor and much of the Current platform’s technology, but the EXP adds a lighter carbon front triangle and higher-tier suspension, braking, and wireless drivetrain components.
The Aventon Ramblas ADV may be preferable if you want a lighter, simpler hardtail eMTB and do not require rear suspension. Carbon-frame note: The Current EXP uses a carbon-fiber front triangle paired with an aluminum rear triangle. Accessories should be installed only in approved locations and tightened to the specified torque. Avoid clamping repair stands, vehicle racks, locks, or accessories onto unsupported carbon frame sections. The frame should be inspected after a significant crash, impact, or suspected damage.
Mid-drive shifting note: The rider and motor both send power through the chain and drivetrain. Although SRAM Transmission is designed for demanding mountain-bike use, good shifting technique still matters. Smooth pedal pressure and sensible gear selection can reduce drivetrain wear and improve shift quality.
Gear-selection note: Select an easier gear before stopping, approaching a steep climb, or entering a low-speed technical section. Starting in a high gear increases load on the chain, cassette, derailleur, and motor.
Electronic drivetrain note: The SRAM AXS derailleur and shift pod use wireless electronic communication. Proper operation depends on charged batteries, correct component installation, current compatible firmware, and appropriate drivetrain adjustment. Electronic customization remains the rider’s choice and can be managed according to SRAM’s current instructions.
Suspension note: Air pressure, sag, rebound, and other available adjustments should be set according to rider weight, riding style, equipment, and terrain. Improper setup can reduce traction and control or prevent the suspension from using its travel effectively. Suspension settings should be reviewed periodically as riding conditions or rider weight change.
BOOST Mode note: BOOST Mode temporarily increases motor output, torque, and support for especially steep or demanding trail sections. Frequent use will increase battery consumption and may accelerate drivetrain wear compared with lower assistance settings.
Auto Assist note: Auto Assist can vary motor support as riding conditions change. The rider remains responsible for selecting an appropriate gear, controlling speed, anticipating obstacles, and choosing a safe line.
Wheel Lift Control note: Wheel Lift Control is intended to help moderate front-wheel lift under high assistance on steep climbs. It does not replace correct body position, smooth power delivery, appropriate gear choice, or sound climbing technique.
Overrun note: Overrun can briefly continue motor support after pedaling stops to help maintain momentum through rocks, roots, ledges, and other obstacles. Riders should become familiar with its behavior in a controlled area before using it on technical terrain.
Air Time tracking note: Air Time tracking records compatible jump information and ride data. It is an analysis and entertainment feature and should not be treated as encouragement to attempt jumps beyond the rider’s skill, the bicycle’s intended use, or safe trail conditions.
Tubeless note: The wheels and supplied tires are tubeless compatible, but tubeless-ready does not necessarily mean the bike is delivered fully converted. Tubeless conversion requires compatible rim tape, valves, sealant, proper installation, and periodic sealant maintenance. Tire pressure should be checked before every ride.
Tire-pressure note: Mountain-bike tire pressure affects traction, rim protection, rolling resistance, cornering, comfort, and puncture risk. Appropriate pressure depends on rider weight, terrain, riding speed, tire casing, rim width, and whether tubes or sealant are being used.
Dropper-post note: Raise the saddle for efficient seated climbing and lower it before descents or technical sections to create more room for body movement. Avoid lifting or hanging the bicycle by the movable portion of the dropper post.
Terrain note: The Current EXP is intended for genuine mountain-bike riding, including singletrack, roots, rocks, steep climbs, and technical descents. Rider skill, trail conditions, obstacle size, speed, and landing quality remain important. No bicycle eliminates the risks associated with jumps, drops, high speeds, exposure, or aggressive terrain.
Range note: Actual range varies substantially with assistance mode, BOOST Mode use, rider weight, elevation gain, terrain, temperature, wind, tire pressure, riding speed, drivetrain efficiency, surface conditions, and stop frequency. The maximum published range represents favorable test conditions and should not be expected during demanding mountain-bike riding.
Class-setting note: The Current EXP is supplied as a Class 1 pedal-assist e-bike and may be convertible to Class 3 where legally permitted. Transport note: Use a bicycle carrier rated for the Current EXP’s weight, wheelbase, tire size, and frame design. Every e-bike purchased from Kickstand Culture is professionally assembled, tuned, and test-checked by our service department before delivery. For the Current EXP, this includes inspecting the Aventon Ultro X mid-drive system, verifying proper operation of the SRAM electronic drivetrain and shifting system, adjusting and checking the RockShox suspension, inspecting the SRAM hydraulic brakes, checking wheel alignment, setting an appropriate initial tire pressure, confirming proper dropper-post operation, inspecting trail-critical fasteners, and verifying proper operation of the drive system and factory-installed riding modes.
